How to improve the flexographic quality of corrugated boxes (boxes)

Color corrugated cartons (boxes) occupy an important position in product packaging. Due to the non-pollution of paper packaging, environmental protection requirements, and low cost, they are increasingly favored by businesses.

The prosperity of commodity economy and fierce competition in the market have promoted the improvement of the quality of product packaging. Landscaping has become an important means of marketing and propaganda. The printing quality of corrugated boxes has been increasingly valued by commodity producers and consumers.

With the advancement of carton processing and packaging machinery, the scope of corrugated carton packaging is getting bigger and bigger. It can not only pack mechanical parts and electrical components, but also package motorcycles, washing machines, refrigerators, and pianos. As the demand for packaging of goods over 50kg will increase substantially, the demand for heavy corrugated packaging boxes such as the fifth, seventh and nine floors will increase significantly.

First, the advantages of corrugated carton flexo printing With the development of flexo printing technology, corrugated carton printing has gradually adopted flexographic technology. According to statistics, 98% of the United States and 85% of corrugated cartons in Western Europe use this printing technology. The printing trend of corrugated cartons is from single-color, two-color to multi-color screen printing, and the transition from packaging (transport packaging) to high-end sales packaging. Flexo printing corrugated boxes have the following advantages:

1. Flexo can print both the field version and the cable version.
Foreign countries tend to use white cardboard (paint white cardboard or 80g/m2 single-sided coated paper, offset paper) E corrugated cardboard, with 100l/in printing high-grade corrugated paper color boxes, in all types of rough corrugated printing is generally 80l Below /in, usually 40 to 60 l/in. Printed cable prints on kraft paper are generally not printed in three primary colors, and the number of screens should not exceed 60 l/in.

2. Flexible version is flexible.
The flexible version is flexible and elastic, and can compensate for the thickness error and surface unevenness of the corrugated cardboard during the printing process to make the ink layer more uniform, thereby improving the printing quality.

3. Flexo printing belongs to light press printing.
Corrugated cardboard due to corrugated, so that the pressure during the printing process is uneven, corrugated high pressure, corrugated light pressure is low, sometimes corrugated low printing plate is not in contact with the ink can not be printed out of the phenomenon. Offset and gravure cannot overcome this defect, resulting in severe signs of corrugation. The flexo printing is light pressure printing. After the plate is compressed and deformed, the corrugated paperboard can be well contacted. The high corrugated part will not produce the phenomenon that the pressure is too high and the marks are severe or even corrugated and corrugated.

4. Flexo printing can use water ink.
Flexographic printing uses a metal anilox ink transfer system that can use aqueous inks. Water-based ink is used to print corrugated cartons. The printing plate touches the corrugated board lightly, and water-based ink is almost completely absorbed.

5. The flexo press has a simple structure.
The corrugated paper box has a large area and the length of the paperboard can reach 2 to 3 m. If offset printing is used, the equipment is huge and operation and maintenance are difficult. The structure of the flexo press is simple and the four rollers form a color group. After the diameter of the roller is increased, the mechanical performance and stability can be improved. Loading, adjusting and cleaning are very convenient.

6. Can be combined with other processing equipment to form a linkage production line.
Because of its simple structure, the flexo printing press can be produced in conjunction with other processes. Nowadays, most corrugated board printing presses are combined with creasing machines and slotting machines for on-line production. It is used for indentation, slotting, die cutting and gluing. The box making and counting device together form a printing production line, which can directly print the corrugated box once.

In short, the best way to print corrugated cartons is flexo printing, a consensus reached at home and abroad.

Second, the corrugated board structure and specifications in the corrugated machine to suppress the corrugated core paper (wave-like cross-section is similar corrugated) on the adhesive paper made of high strength cardboard, called corrugated cardboard. The corrugated paperboard is basically similar in force to the arches, has a greater rigidity and good load-bearing capacity, and is full of elasticity and high shockproof performance (see Figure 1).

Corrugated shapes are directly related to the compressive strength of corrugated board. According to the corrugated paper core shape, corrugated cardboard can be divided into U-shaped, V-shaped and UV-shaped, as shown in Figure 2.

In addition to corrugated shapes, corrugated board properties are also related to corrugated specifications. Generally divided into A type, B type, C type, E type, various specifications of corrugated as listed in Table 1.

A-type corrugated has excellent shock-proof cushioning, and the vertical compressive strength is better than that of B type (see Figure 3). C-type corrugated quakeproof performance is similar to that of the A-type, the flat pressure resistance is close to the B-type corrugated, and the A and C corrugated cardboard are mostly used for outer packaging. The B-type corrugated flats have more compressive strength than A-type corrugations, and the number of corrugations per unit length is large, and there are more supporting points with the face paper and liner paper, so that they are not easily deformed and the surface is flat. Strong compressive power, good for printing. B-type corrugated board is mostly used for packaging. E-type corrugated type is the finest type of corrugated type, about 1mm in height, the largest number of corrugated units per unit length, can withstand large plane pressure, and can print higher-quality graphics. Its strength is similar to cardboard, but lighter and cheaper than cardboard. As mentioned earlier, it is mostly used for inner packaging. Recently, K-type extra-large corrugated cardboard has appeared in the world, with a 6.6-7.0mm height, 75-85 watt-per-meter watts, a 0.5-mm-high N-type hoe, and a 0.75mm-high F-type hoe. Type G corrugation is 0.85mm high.

Corrugated board can be divided into single-flange corrugated board, three-layer corrugated board, five-layer corrugated board and seven-layer corrugated board according to the composition type. As shown in Figure 4.

The three-layer corrugated cardboard is made by attaching a single sheet of paper (such as kraft paper) on both sides of a corrugating medium, and is mostly used for medium or small outer packaging cartons.

The five-layer corrugated cardboard is formed by bonding three sheets of paper, two cores of corrugated paper, and a core paper in the order of face paper, corrugating medium, core paper, corrugated paper, and paper. In general, AB type combination is adopted, and AC type, BC type, AE type, and BE type can also be adopted. The five-layer corrugated cardboard has greater strength than the three-layer corrugated cardboard and is stable in loading, allowing a large-sized carton with a large load capacity to be made.

The seven-layer corrugated cardboard is composed of four sheets of paper, three sheets of corrugated paper, and three sheets of corrugated paper.楞 type usually adopts BAB type, but also can adopt BAA, CAC, BAC type combination. The seven-layer paperboard has the same characteristics as the horizontal and vertical compressive strength, which can increase the longitudinal strength and reduce the thickness of the paperboard. Mainly used for the packaging of heavy goods. Corrugated cardboard is now moving toward high strength, low weight, multiple types, and high quality.

Third, the corrugated board after the flexo printing process
1. There are three ways to print corrugated cardboard:
1 Printing directly on corrugated cardboard with a photosensitive flexographic or rubber plate (mostly an array type) is called a post-printing process.
(2) Fine offset printing on reel copperplate paper with an offset or flexo printer, followed by bonding with corrugated paperboard, known as the master table process.
3 In the production of corrugated cardboard, the first version of the reel paper is printed on a flexible version of the satellite machine, and the corrugating medium and the liner are combined to produce corrugated cardboard. This means that the corrugated board produced is a good product to be printed. For preprinting process.

The first post-printing process conforms to the principle of “quickness, convenience, environmental protection, and economy”, and it is used more often, accounting for about 70%.
The second type of offset printing has a higher cost for the main table, which is suitable for a small amount of sharpness and requires high-quality, special-shaped corrugated boxes.
The third pre-printing process is suitable for large-volume products and is rarely used in China.

2. Main factors to improve the printing quality of corrugated carton (box) flexo printing
(1) The quality of corrugated paperboard tends to use E-type corrugated paper for printing after the printing; multi-layer composite corrugated paperboard is also used for printing on the E-type corrugated layer, which is conducive to uniform printing pressure, flat mesh, and paper saving. The domestic three-layer corrugated paper is mostly AC (or B) corrugated composite; the five-layer corrugated paper is an AB or BC corrugated composite; the seven-layer corrugated paper is ACB, BAB, BAA, CAC-type corrugated composite, rarely E-type corrugated cardboard or Combined with E-type corrugated.

Printed cable version of the corrugated board to use white paper, foreign generally used paint white cardboard or 85g single coated paper, offset paper. Light-coated and recoated white-white cattle paperboard produced by the Finnish forestry company is a coated type corrugated paper. Compared with non-coated paper, the coated paper has a 63% higher printing ink density; the gloss is 350% higher and can be printed well. Quality and clarity. However, the use of ordinary ink printing coated paper, ink will often appear uneven, slow drying conditions, it is recommended to use a new generation of ink or a flexographic printing machine with drying device. In addition, a small area of ​​graphic and text will be printed first, and a large area of ​​graphic and text will be printed. The sequence of black, cyan, magenta, and yellow may be used.
