Garmin has unveiled a new lightweight, sleek GPS smartwatch called vivoactive, designed to support users in maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. This innovative device offers advanced sports tracking features for activities such as running, cycling, golf, and swimming, thanks to its built-in GPS and intuitive design. The watch is not only functional but also stylish, with a high-resolution touchscreen that remains visible even under direct sunlight. Users can personalize their experience by swapping out straps or choosing from a variety of watch faces available on the Connect IQ platform.
At this year’s global CES show, Garmin will showcase the vivoactive at booth 35811 in South Hall 4, giving attendees their first look at this exciting new product. According to Dan Bartel, Vice President of Global Sales at Garmin, the vivoactive combines the brand’s signature outdoor technology—like long battery life and sun-readable displays—with a sleek, ultra-thin design that fits seamlessly into daily life. “This watch is designed to be worn all day, allowing users to express their individuality through customizable straps, interfaces, and apps,†he said.
Beyond basic fitness tracking, the vivoactive offers a range of specialized features. For runners, it can track pace, distance, and time using GPS, and even switch to internal sensors when GPS is unavailable. The cycling app provides detailed metrics like speed, distance, and calories burned, while the golf app gives access to over 38,000 global course maps, helping players make better decisions on the course. The swim tracking feature uses motion sensors to measure stroke count, distance, and SWOLF score, offering insights into swimming efficiency.
In addition to sports tracking, the vivoactive functions as a smart companion. It connects via Bluetooth to smartphones, allowing users to receive call and message alerts, read emails, and manage calendar reminders. It also lets users control music playback and locate their phone with a simple alert. With up to three weeks of battery life under normal use, and up to 10 hours of GPS usage, it’s perfect for both daily wear and extended outdoor adventures.
The device also integrates with the Garmin Connect app, where users can track their progress, set goals, and participate in community challenges. By linking with MyFitnessPal, they can monitor calorie intake and compare it with their activity levels. With customizable straps in various colors and styles, the vivoactive adapts to any occasion, whether casual, sporty, or formal.
Garmin has partnered with developers to bring more apps to the Connect IQ store, including tools like Tempo for smart calendar management, LifeLine Response for emergency services, AccuWeather for real-time air quality updates, and Moxy for muscle oxygen monitoring. These enhancements make the vivoactive a versatile tool for both fitness and everyday life.
Available in black and white, the vivoactive will be released in Q1 2015, with a suggested retail price of $249.99, and a heart rate version priced at $299.99. As part of Garmin’s commitment to innovation, the vivoactive represents the next step in wearable technology, blending style, function, and personalization to help users achieve their health and fitness goals.
