Nova Chemicals launches new process for water foam PS

Recently, Nova chemical and plastics processing equipment company Teubert Maschineubau co-developed the use of water to produce expanded polystyrene (EPS). The new process mixes starch into EPS particles and foams EPS by absorbing water. Preparation of finished products to solve the problem of conventional EPS pentane fugitive pollution.

In the past, pentane was used for the production of EPS, and up to half of the pentane remained in the processed EPS was slowly released into the atmosphere during storage and use. To reduce VOC emissions, pentane “capture” and “destruction” were required. Although the system can alleviate the damage to the atmosphere, it cannot completely solve the problem.

According to reports, the new proprietary process uses modified starch in EPS particle shells to absorb the moisture of tiny droplets and thus foam. Nova company has planned to first promote industrial production in the United States. The advantage is that it can meet strict regulatory requirements for the release of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). In addition to reducing VOC emissions, the process can also increase the productivity of foam moldings and improve the safety of foam production.
