[Chinese Packaging Network News] Recent advancements in two key technologies highlight the growing interest of machinery manufacturers like ABB and packaging specialists such as BluePrint Automation in optimizing resource allocation within industrial machinery. By enhancing mechanical capabilities, these companies are pushing the boundaries of efficiency and performance in the packaging sector.
The wide range of packaging machines showcased at the exhibition, along with significant improvements in both hardware and software, has significantly enhanced the functionality and adaptability of these systems for packagers.
Rick Tallian, ABB's manager of packaging products and applications, provided an in-depth look at the latest hardware developments during the event. For instance, the ABB IRB 1200 model is now lighter and 10% faster than its previous version, allowing it to operate efficiently in larger workspaces. These upgrades have expanded the robot’s application in various packaging tasks.
In addition to hardware improvements, ABB has also made notable software enhancements. According to Tallian, they recently updated their control room and palletizing capabilities. "With our palletizing power, we can simulate a full mechanical palletizing cell," he explained. ABB has tested these capabilities in a virtual environment and found the simulation results to be highly accurate when compared to real-world performance.
A new feature called Robot Studio Picking Power Pac offers real-time predictions through a visual monitor located on the upper left corner of the mechanical architecture diagram. This tool enhances the mechanical system's functionality by enabling system integrators and end users to design and develop alternative simulations that can be directly loaded into the machine controller. "It simplifies the process of creating realistic simulations for real-world operations," Tallian said.
Blueprint Optimization Machinery
BluePrint Automation's classification and space system is designed to optimize one of the most complex and flexible packaging workflows.
This compact, modular system mass-produces products such as bags before they are arranged by vision-guided machinery downstream. At the exhibition, a reader (visible on the right side of the top image) separates the bags at the front of the triangular dispenser. The system allows packaging machines to add or remove modules based on specific needs, with each of the 10 modules featuring a two-lane configuration.
It automatically sorts and flips packaged items, making it ideal for handling products that require pitching or rolling. The system can process up to 300 bags per minute and is also capable of thermoforming.
According to company spokesperson Robbie Quinlin, a customer installed 10 modules of this system just three months ago, demonstrating its practicality and effectiveness in real-world applications.
