Is the furniture you buy "healthy"? The environmental rating logo tells you

In a recent report, it was revealed that Shenzhen has started implementing a furniture environmental protection grading system. This initiative allows professional institutions to evaluate and classify the environmental quality of furniture produced by factories. As a result, consumers can now easily assess the environmental impact of furniture when making purchases. When buying new furniture for their homes, many people often encounter unpleasant odors. With growing awareness of environmental issues, more people are now concerned about the potential health risks associated with harmful substances like formaldehyde found in furniture. However, some retailers tend to downplay these concerns, which leaves consumers uncertain about the safety of the products they bring into their homes. According to Tan Qingliang from the Shenzhen Office of the People's Committee, the China Quality Certification Center is working alongside local authorities to promote this environmental protection rating system. Once fully implemented, the system will enable consumers to quickly identify the environmental standards of the furniture they purchase. The system involves testing furniture based on factors such as materials, production processes, and emitted odors. The results determine the environmental protection grade, which is divided into five levels. Currently, over ten companies in Shenzhen have already obtained certification, while several more are in the process of applying. Wu Shangguang, director of the Development Department at the Shenzhen Branch of the China Quality Certification Center, explained that the program is currently voluntary. Companies are encouraged to participate to improve their environmental standards. In addition to product testing, the system also evaluates the production facilities, internal management systems, and technical equipment of manufacturers. This ensures that all products meet consistent quality and environmental requirements. By implementing this system, furniture companies are motivated to invest more in eco-friendly practices to achieve higher environmental ratings. If the project continues successfully in Shenzhen, it could serve as a model for nationwide implementation in the future.
