Paris: Interactive window display with beautiful 3D printing

Semeast is a public organization in Paris whose main purpose is to promote the development of the retail sector in the tenth district of the city. Not long ago, during the Christmas season in 2015, in order to increase the festive atmosphere of Paris and help businesses attract consumers' attention, Semeast organized an interesting event. It has teamed up with 10 local local stores to host an event that uses recycled materials and high-tech manufacturing techniques, including laser cutting and 3D printing , to create interactive holiday-themed window displays – the French window (Vitrines Innovantes).

It is understood that the assembly of these interactive window display works and the manufacture of 3D printed parts are all done by the local maker space Le FabShop. Le FabShop is actually a start-up company specializing in 3D printing technology and a distributor of Makerbot machines in France. Semeast and the Paris Chamber of Commerce provided financial assistance for this event.

In response to the COP21 Global Environment Conference, which was held in Paris, this innovative window project focused on the use of recycled, locally produced and biodegradable materials. For example, Jamini, one of the ten stores involved in the event, has installed a mini Christmas village in its window that uses excess cardboard and recycled paper from its store. Le FabShop's makers use laser cutting to create shapes, plus touch-sensitive microcontrollers, 3D printed circuit boards, photovoltaic cells and LED lights. In addition, they also printed several decorations using biodegradable PLA material 3D.

“These window displays combine design, innovation and sustainability to fully demonstrate Le FabShop's true “maker” spirit,” Semeast said. “Semeast and Le FabShop want to show how the low-cost raw materials that can be found in these places can give people a new feeling.”

The end result is that these small Christmas villages based on the history and architectural design of the 10th district of Paris attract many passing consumers, and when they put their hands on the window glass, these Christmas villages will be lit. , activated, quite interesting and innovative. Therefore, in addition to these recycled materials, 3D printing and maker technology, these innovative interactive window windows reflect the spirit of the festival and Paris.

According to reports, these 3D printed interactive windows will be displayed at the 10 participating stores from November 20, 2015 to January 10, 2016. Overall, this innovative activity has succeeded in getting more attention and success for participating companies. And it can be used as a model to inspire stores to encourage deeper connections and how to use sustainable 3D printing to improve the look of storefront windows.
