Even if you don’t buy ceramic tiles, many people have some basic understanding of them. Most know the general categories, but few are aware of the subtle differences between types. For example, micro-powder tiles remain a mystery to many. Today, we’ll take a closer look at this type of tile and explain what makes it unique. In short, the differences between various ceramic tiles mainly come down to the materials used and the production techniques involved.

So, what exactly is a micro-powder tile? After researching, I found out that it’s a type of vitrified tile. Its production process differs from that of solid-colored or patterned tiles, resulting in a distinct surface appearance. To check the quality of such tiles, you can flip them over and see if the back color matches the front surface. This helps determine if the tile is made with consistent materials throughout.

The production of micro-powder vitrified tiles uses advanced technology from the polished tile series. These tiles have significantly improved upon traditional monolithic polished tiles, which often suffered from issues like dull patterns, lack of shine, poor wear resistance, and low stain resistance. As a result, micro-powder tiles represent the future direction of polished tile development. The concept of micro-powder tiles first emerged about two years ago, thanks to advancements in ceramic raw material preparation and secondary cloth technology. Foshan ceramics has since led three major revolutions in the development of ultrafine powder products.

The first generation of micro-powder tiles were known as "shapi dog" tiles. However, their micro-powder mixing technology was not yet mature, leading to uneven distribution of materials and clumping, which caused visible "sharp dogs" or peeling spots on the surface. This not only affected aesthetics but also compromised the internal quality of the tiles. The second generation introduced chaotic grain micro-powder tiles, where random cloth technology became more refined. This largely eliminated the issues seen in the first generation, improving both the surface effect and structural integrity. However, these tiles still had limitations in terms of texture and color realism, failing to match the natural look of real stone.
Although micro-powder tiles have evolved significantly over time, it's still important for buyers to be careful when choosing. Not all products meet high-quality standards, so it's wise to do thorough research before making a purchase.
