Jurassic World Limited Edition Barbasso packaging retains the iconic Barbaso brand design. With the release of Spielberg’s "Jurassic World," dinosaurs have once again captured people's imaginations—not just on the big screen. Perio Co., Ltd. has partnered with Universal Pictures to create a special, co-branded limited edition for Barbaso shaving cream. The can features not only the brand name but also intricate patterns inspired by flowing lines and flying dragons, reflecting the cinematic theme.
Dinosaurs are rare in the world of health and beauty products, but for Barbaso, they are no stranger. Since 1993, when the original movie was released, Barbaso jars were used to hold dinosaur embryos, and the brand had already secured distribution rights to Jurassic World.
The limited-edition collection includes two versions: the original shave cream and a lubricated aloe vera shaving cream. The packaging keeps the traditional barber shop pattern, with red representing the original version and green symbolizing the aloe-infused variant. The packaging was designed by Marc Engelt, the artist behind the Jurassic World poster, who skillfully merged Pteranodon and Raptor motifs with Barbaso's classic design elements.
To bring Engelt’s vision to life, Crown Spray Co. used a six-color offset press to print the cans. After applying standard white plating, the company printed all the patterns and added a UV gloss varnish for durability.
From a branding perspective, the challenge was to maintain Barbaso's identity while incorporating the Jurassic World theme. Janice Delisio, factory manager at Crown Design's Chinese and Western Design Center, emphasized that both brands needed to be clearly visible. “We had to keep the 'Jurassic World' logo as well as the Barbaso brand logo,†she explained.
One of the technical challenges was preserving the true color of the brand's iconic deep blue and the light blue on the logo. The dark blue was also part of the background, making it even more complex. To achieve this, the printing process used four process colors and three regional colors, ensuring accurate representation across both can designs.
The final result was so impressive that Barbaso's limited edition packaging received the 2015 Best Metal Decoration Award from the International Metal Decoration Association.
The 10-ounce limited-edition cans will be released in May and will be available worldwide in stores, pharmacies, and major retail outlets. This collaboration between Barbaso and Jurassic World is a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation, offering fans a unique way to experience the prehistoric world through their daily grooming routine.
