Paper Plate Minions Craft

I have to admit, my daughters are completely obsessed with Minions. Even before the release of the latest movie, they’ve been absolutely captivated by everything Minion-related. Pink has always been their go-to color, but now it’s all about yellow! From clothes to toys, they’re on a mission to surround themselves with anything yellow. This weekend, I decided to channel their enthusiasm into a fun crafting activity. As soon as I spotted some bright yellow and blue paper plates at the store, inspiration struck. I knew these would be perfect for making our own Minion crafts. With a few additional supplies, we could bring these characters to life! For our Minion craft project, here’s what you’ll need: - Yellow and blue paper plates (painting them beforehand adds a personal touch) - Black and white craft foam or card - Pom poms or googly eyes - Black pipe cleaners - Aluminum foil - Permanent markers We started by cutting the yellow plate into an oval shape to form the Minion's head. Next, we shaped the blue plate to resemble overalls, giving it that iconic Minion look. Using strips of black craft foam, we added the signature goggles. For the eyes, we glued a piece of aluminum foil, followed by a circle of white craft foam, and finally a black pom pom for depth. To create the arms and legs, we used leftover bits of the paper plates. Small pieces of pipe cleaner became the hair, adding a quirky touch. A crescent-shaped piece of black craft foam was perfect for the mouth. Finally, we used a permanent marker to add extra details like buttons on the overalls and expressions on the faces. While I showed them the basic steps, the girls quickly got into their own groove. Rose, who’s four years old, spent a lot of time drawing patterns on the Minion's tummy. Charlotte, also four, went for a more dramatic look, creating a rather sad-looking Minion. Meanwhile, seven-year-old Molly added intricate drawings of eyes and hair, along with accessories like cupcakes and bananas. It was amazing to see how each child put their own spin on the project. Even though I had a general idea of how the Minions should look, they were determined to make theirs unique. This activity wasn’t just about following instructions—it was about creativity and having fun. This paper plate Minion craft is a fantastic way to engage kids in a hands-on project while celebrating their favorite characters. It’s simple enough for younger children to enjoy, yet open-ended enough for older kids to experiment with design. Whether you're a Minion enthusiast or just looking for a fun family activity, this craft is sure to bring smiles. So why not give it a try? Grab some supplies, gather the kids, and let the Minion-making magic begin!
