Cavendish Mascot Challenge
Life insurance isn’t something we usually talk about, but it’s definitely something we’ve been meaning to sort out. When Cavendish Insurance reached out to us with a creative challenge—designing a mascot using the savings from their life insurance quote—I couldn’t resist jumping in. Honestly, who doesn’t love a good creative challenge?
Getting a quote from Cavendish was surprisingly straightforward, and we ended up saving about £10 using the exact same information as before. That £10 might not sound like much, but it felt like a victory—a little financial win to celebrate!
With that £10 in hand, I knew exactly where to spend it. Air-drying clay has always been a favorite in our household, but I realized that the twins might struggle less with it now that they're older. We picked up a big bag of Das air-drying clay in terracotta and divided it into four portions. The challenge was simple: create a Cavendish mascot.
We brainstormed ideas and decided that Cavendish sounded like the name of a cat. Cats are friendly, approachable, and have a certain charm that seemed perfect for a mascot. The girls got straight to work, molding the clay into their versions of Cavendish.
Air-drying clay is fantastic for keeping kids entertained. It gives them the freedom to express their creativity without the pressure of perfection. Plus, the terracotta color turned out to be such a warm, inviting shade—perfect for a mascot!
Molly, who’s seven, had a clear vision for her mascot. She wanted to give him glasses to make him look sophisticated, almost like a little sphinx. She added tiny details like claws, which were a bit tricky to attach but worked well after scoring both pieces lightly.
Charlotte, who’s four, absolutely adored this project. She loves playing with clay, and this was just an extension of that. She gave her little cat a sweet face, complete with a tiny nose and eyes made from smaller bits of clay.
Rose, also four, found this task incredibly motivating. She often gets frustrated when things don’t turn out perfectly, but she was thrilled with her little cat and declared him “so cute!â€
Once the mascots were finished, we set them up as a little art gallery. It was amazing to see how each child interpreted Cavendish differently. Some were sleek and modern, others playful and whimsical.

This experience reminded me how important it is to balance practical decisions like life insurance with moments of creativity and fun. Who knew saving money could lead to such a delightful afternoon?
